DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) Matches

These matches are semi-automatic precision rifle competitions designed for beginning to intermediate shooters using practical, off-the-shelf rifles. These matches focus on speed, accuracy, and efficient target engagement at mid-range distances, with most targets between 200 and 500 yards.

Stages consist of 8–12 targets per course of fire, with shooters given two minutes (2:00) to engage all targets using a maximum of 20 rounds. Targets are engaged in a “hit-to-move-on” format—meaning you must hit each target before moving to the next. If you miss, you may re-engage until you hit or run out of time or ammunition. Scoring is Time Plus Penalties: each target not engaged adds +15 seconds to your stage time.

This style of match rewards both precision and movement efficiency. Shooters will move between firing positions, but the physical demands are moderate and manageable for most people.

Gear Requirements:

  • Rifle: A semi-automatic rifle capable of 1–2 MOA accuracy at 100 yards with factory ammo. Common choices include AR-15s or AR-10s in calibers like .223/5.56 or 6.5 Creedmoor.
  • Optic: A variable-power scope with elevation and windage hold capability (e.g., exposed turrets or reticle holdovers).
  • Magazines: At least two magazines; 10-round minimum capacity (20–30 round mags preferred).
  • Ammunition: Approximately 200 rounds
  • Support Gear (optional but encouraged): Bipod, shooting bag, sling, rangefinder and binoculars
