Range Priority
Some parts of the Virtue Flat Range cannot be used simultaneously.
Range Priority is the system we use to determine which event or group has priority over other groups when multiple parties use the range at the same time. Range Priority creates a safe range.
Range Priority is established first by the Club Calendar, and then by time of arrival and position.
All Calendar Events at the range have priority over all other uses. The Director for each Calendar Event has full authority over the entire range for the time period specified on the Calendar.
For all other times, earlier arrival has priority over later arrival, and earlier position has priority over later position.
Before firing, always physically check the entire range to determine whether you have priority and whether your intended use is safe.
No person shall travel downrange of any active firing position.
The Direction of Fire on the Rifle Range is observably northeast. See map.
No firing position shall be established at any location west or east of any scheduled or pre-established active position on the Rifle Range.
The Pistol Range includes all facilities located north of the Rifle Range in the area of the 300-Yard Firing Berm. See map.
The Pistol Range can be used at the same time as the 200-Yard Rifle Range, and vice versa.
The Pistol Range CANNOT be used or accessed when a firing position has been established on the Rifle Range at any point west of the 200-Yard Firing Berm.
No firing position can be established on any part of the Rifle Range west of the 200-Yard Firing Berm when any person is on any part of the Pistol Range.
The Direction of Fire on the Pistol Range spans northwest to northeast.
The Direction of Fire in Pistol Bays is from bay-entrance to rear berm only.
During scheduled matches only, the Direction of Fire within Pistol Bays may span the Practical Discipline 180° arc.
No Matches shall be scheduled simultaneously in Pistol Bays 1-9 and any other range location.
During Scheduled Matches on the 200 Yard Rifle Range, no firing is permitted in Pistol Bays 1-9.
During Scheduled Matches in Pistol Bays 1-9, no firing is permitted anywhere on the Rifle Range and no person shall access Rifle Range locations east of the 200-yard Firing Line.
If you have questions about any PRSC rule or policy, call a Club Officer for clarification.
Club Policy
Identifying and Authorizing Individuals to serve as Match Directors or Range Officers at Virtue Flat Range:
PRSC Trustees are empowered to identify and authorize individuals to serve as Chief Range Officer (CRO) aka Match Director (MD) at the Virtue Flat Range. No person shall serve in this capacity at any Range Event unless authorized to do so by majority vote of a quorum of the Trustees. Non-members are not eligible.
PRSC Trustees are likewise empowered to revoke such authorization by majority vote of a quorum of the Trustees.
The standard for gaining such authorization can be any combination of experience, training, or certification that convinces the PRSC Range Master or a majority of the PRSC Trustees that an individual applicant is qualified to serve as CRO or MD at the Virtue Flat Range. Interested parties may apply by contacting the Range Master or any Club Officer, or at any regular Club meeting.
CRO’s and MD’s are required to maintain current knowledge of all Club Rules and Policies pertaining to use of the Virtue Flat Range, and are strongly encouraged to have copies of Discipline and Club rules on hand at all events.
During scheduled events, CRO’s and MD’s have complete authority over the entire Virtue Flat Range and every person on it for the duration of their scheduled event.
CRO’s and MD’s are empowered, on a per-event basis, to appoint qualified persons to serve as Range Officers to assist in the safe conduct of each event. Such Range Officers shall operate under the supervision of, and remain subject to the authority of, the CRO or MD at each event.
As of January 2025, the following Members are authorized PRSC CRO/MD’s: Ken Bardizian, Chuck Buchanan, Eldon Buckner, Terry Dyke, Sue Freeman, Stephen Furtney, Bill Harmon, Bette Horan, Mike Lunyou, Dan McGuire, Esa Murrell, Phil O’Connell, Levi Patterson, Victor Savage, Steve Simons, David Spaugh, Fred Stampflee, Brandon Svitak, Bill Taylor, Mart Van Dine, Elwood Wirth.
Alcohol and Drugs:
Rule #1: No person intoxicated by or under the influence of alcohol or any chemical substance shall enter the Virtue Flat Shooting Range, or the PRSC Clubhouse, or any other property under the control of PRSC.
Rule #2: No person shall consume any alcohol or any intoxicating or mind-altering substance on said premises.
Exception to Rule #2: Only when a PRSC-authorized MD or CRO is present and remains present, and only on the Virtue Flat Range, and only in connection with a PRSC scheduled event, and only between 15:00 and 20:00 hours, and only if said MD or CRO has closed the portion of said Range under his or her control to all shooting for the remainder of the calendar day, and only on the condition that no person shall consume alcohol to the extent of intoxication, shall it be permissible for any person to consume alcoholic beverages on said Range.
Violations of this policy are subject to permanent revocation of Virtue Flat Range access privilege and PRSC MD/CRO authorization.
Ammunition and Explosives:
The use of tracer ammunition, armor-piercing ammunition, or actual or intended explosives or incendiary devices, including binary explosives and fireworks, is prohibited at the Virtue Flat Range.
The Club reserves the right to grant specific exceptions to explosives and tracer rules when special events are scheduled at the range in non-fire season conditions.
Woodstove:
The Woodstove located at the 1000 Yard Firing Berm shall be used only during the months of November through April. All persons using this stove shall ensure that the fire and stove are in a safe condition prior to leaving the range. Do not use water to extinguish the fire; this causes rust. Do not fill the stove with dirt. No person shall light or start or maintain a fire in this stove during the months of May through October.
