These matches are long-range shooting competitions that test your ability to engage targets at varying distances under time pressure and from improvised shooting positions. Stages are designed to simulate real-world field conditions, with targets ranging from 100 to 1,000+ yards.
Each stage typically requires engaging multiple steel targets at varying distances from multiple shooting positions—such as barricades, rooftops, or prone—with a 2 minute time limit.
Gear Requirements:
- Rifle: A precision rifle capable of 1 inch or less groups at 100 yards. Most shooters use bolt-action rifles in calibers like 6.5 Creedmoor or .308, but any accurate rifle is welcome. Detachable magazine rifles are preferred so that the rifle can be safely cleared at the end of each stage.
- Optic: A scope with tool-less elevation and windage adjustment turrets.
- Ammunition: Match-grade ammo that is consistent and appropriate for your rifle. Most one-day matches require 80–120 rounds.
- Bipod: A stable bipod is essential for many prone or supported positions.
- Support Bag(s): Shooting bags are used to stabilize your rifle on barricades and other obstacles.
- Data and Ballistics: A dope chart or ballistic app to help you calculate elevation and wind holds for each target distance
